Social Welfare department of Uttar Pradesh deals with scholarships of students, book bank scheme for scheduled caste/tribes, fee reimbursement, facilities for higher education. There are several welfare schemes to uplift scheduled castes and weaker sections of societies. Mainly these schemes fall under educational, financial and social brackets.

Social welfare department runs scholarship scheme for scheduled caste, economically weaker sections of general caste. It provide funds for NGOs working for education, upliftment of living condition, removal of atrocities, Ashram style schools and hostels, marriage/illness etc for scheduled caste people. Under Special component scheme SC finance and development corporation department provides financial assistance for self employment, sanitary mart scheme, shop building and technical training, boring of hand pumps etc.

Social Welfare minister has a discrete fund to run shelter houses for weaker section. He provides fund for several welfare schemes for SC people. Under central schemes this department provides Nation old age pension and other pension schemes too.
